Hello! I’m Michael and I’m the Nexmo DevRel team’s latest recruit. (If you look at the picture, I’m the one on the right)
I’ve spent a decade as a developer working on all kinds of things, from point of sale systems for Subway to processing every like, comment, wall post and share on Facebook in real-time. After that, I went on to run an operations team where I worked with tools like Chef and Terraform.
Despite working in development/operations, I realized a few years ago that my passion was learning new things and teaching others. In my spare time, I submitted talk ideas to conferences and user groups (and some of them even accepted!) When I’m not attending events, you’ll find me either working on side projects or writing books.
PHP was my first programming language, and I’m pleased to be joining Nexmo as their PHP developer advocate. At Nexmo, I’ll be owning the PHP client library, writing tutorials and maintaining documentation during the day. In the evenings I’ll be visiting user groups and learning from the community (if you’re looking for a venue for your user group in London, let us know!)
In July, I’ll be headed to Laracon US in the Big Apple! Other events I’m looking forward to this year are PHPNW in Manchester, UK (it’s celebrating 10 excellent years!) and ScotlandPHP’s second outing. See you there?
